Finish Styles

Four finish families to fit any budget or occasion. All are laser-engraved the same way. The difference is the base material and the look it gives the finished piece.

Most Affordable

Economy Wood

Particle board core with a realistic wood-grain laminate face. Clean, professional look at a budget-friendly price. The right choice for appreciation awards, recognition programs, and high-volume orders where consistency matters more than material.

Finishes: Mahogany, Oak, Walnut

Premium Feel

Solid Wood

Genuine solid wood with visible grain and natural variation from piece to piece. Heavier and warmer than economy. A meaningful step up for individual achievement awards, retirement gifts, and pieces meant to be displayed and kept for years.

Species: Red Alder, Premium Walnut, Precision Walnut

Executive Look

Piano Finish

High-gloss lacquer coating that gives the plaque a deep, reflective shine. Not a wood-grain look. This is about the formal, polished finish you see in boardrooms and corporate lobbies. Black piano finish is the most requested. Rosewood and walnut tones also available.

Finishes: Black, Rosewood, Walnut

Annual Programs

Perpetual Plaques

Designed to grow year after year. The base plaque is purchased once. Individual name plates are added each year for new recipients. No need to replace the whole piece. Solid genuine walnut with a step-edge border. Ideal for Employee of the Year, MVP, and long-service programs.

Style: Step Edge Genuine Walnut

Plaque Plates and Sizing

The plate is the engraved nameplate that mounts to the plaque face. Plate color determines the background and engraved text color. Black is the most common choice by a wide margin.

Plate Colors

The plate is a separate piece of coated aluminum that sits on the plaque face. We engrave the plate first, then mount it to the blank. Whatever color the plate is, that becomes the background color of the nameplate area.

Black plates are kept in stock. Other colors may require a short lead time depending on availability from JDS Industries.

  • Black / Gold, most popular, works on every finish
  • Black / Silver, crisp and modern, a lighter contrast option
  • Red / Gold, bold and traditional, great for sports and civic awards
  • Blue / Gold, classic combination, popular for school and corporate programs

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions before placing a plaque order.

What finish should I choose?
It depends on your budget and the occasion. Economy wood plaques are the right call for volume recognition programs where you need a consistent, professional look without a high per-unit cost. Solid wood is a meaningful step up for individual achievement awards and retirement pieces. Piano finish is the choice when the piece needs to look formal or executive. Not sure? Tell us how the award will be used and we will make a recommendation.
What plate color do most people order?
Black with gold engraving is by far the most common. It reads clearly from a distance, complements every plaque finish, and gives the piece a sharp, formal look. Black with silver engraving is the second most popular. If your organization has specific color standards, let us know and we will match as closely as the available plate options allow.
Can you engrave a logo or seal on the plate?
Yes. A vector file works best: .AI, .SVG, or .PDF with vector paths. If you only have a raster image (JPG or PNG), it may work depending on quality and detail level. Send what you have and we will let you know. Most logos, seals, and crests engrave cleanly into the plate.
Is there a minimum order quantity?
No minimum. Single plaques are ordered regularly for retirement gifts, milestone recognition, and individual achievement awards. Pricing per unit does not change significantly at low quantities for plaques the way it does for tumblers.
How do perpetual plaques work?
You purchase the base plaque once and mount it on a wall. Each year, a new individual plate is engraved for the current recipient and added to the board. The base stays in place. We keep your design on file and produce replacement or additional plates as needed each cycle. When the board fills up, some customers order a new base to continue the program.
What size should I order?
For a name and title with no logo, a 6" x 8" or 7" x 9" is usually plenty. If you want to add a logo above the text block, an 8" x 10" gives you the room to do it cleanly. Perpetual plaques typically start at 9" x 12" or larger. We will flag it if your content does not fit comfortably in the size you choose before any order is placed.
